Cars in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Officers stated they were alerted by a resident who found a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A senior political figure stated the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
