Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can expect discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
